Take Hold of your Feelings before your Feelings take Hold of you
Jul 09, 2021Today’s society teaches us to follow our feelings, but our feelings are fickle and unreliable. We can feel one way today and feel the exact opposite tomorrow. The only sure thing about following your feelings is they will steer you awry.
Dallas Willard said that feelings make great servants, but terrible masters. Our emotions are real and justified, but we must let them direct us to God, not rely on them for guidance.
Fix your eyes on the truth that our faith is built on. Emotions and feelings will follow in its footsteps.
Today you may not feel in love with your spouse, but what does the truth say? 1 Corinthians 13 tells us that love is patient. Love is kind. It is not self-seeking. Love does not keep a record of wrongs. Love never fails.
Love remains committed even when the going is rough, and love reaps the reward of faithfulness. Follow the truth, and your feelings will not be far behind.
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never ends.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8a
