In Mark 11, Jesus tells his disciples that they can say to a mountain be thrown into the sea, and it would be done for them. Some suggest that he was looking at Jerusalem as he said this, and the temple built upon its hill. He had just left it in a tizzy after overturning the money changer’s tables, calling them thieves and making a few folks really upset.
“Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”
Jesus may not be talking about actual mountains, but obstacles that stand in the way of God’s will and plan, as the temple in Jerusalem had become. Just as Jesus said if we have faith, we can say to our obstacles, “be moved”. The key is cultivating an understanding of God’s will, so what we pray for is in line with what he desires.
We know God’s will for marriage, he calls it blessed. He desires it to thrive. So what obstacles are keeping your marriage from the fullness of God’s will and plan? Speak to those mountains and tell them to be moved!
